Motives & Means of European Imperialism: Terrific Overview
Professor Michael FitzGerald, who teaches at the CUNY School of Professional Studies, developed this awesome overview of the motives of imperialism and the technological advances that made it possible. He reviews scientific racism and European ethnocentrism.
I appreciate how this video is clear and concise. I do like to complicate the notion of "motives" for imperialism. Imperialism evolved before and after 1870. Many "motives" and also caused, in part, by earlier imperialisms, such as racist ideologies and capitalism. I really like the "tools" section, starting around 2:50 and will use that.
